Seychelles visitor's permit 2026: requirements and cost
Seychelles has no digital nomad visa you can apply for today: the Workcation Retreat Programme launched in 2021 still appears on the official e-Border portal, but its application type is switched off. Remote workers instead enter visa-free on a Visitor's Permit, free for three months and extendable in three-month blocks up to one year at SCR 5,000 each; foreign income is not taxed in Seychelles.
Official name: Visitor's Permit (Immigration Decree), with the Workcation Visitor Permit of the Seychelles Workcation Retreat Programme currently disabled. Facts updated 2026-10-13 · Not yet reviewed by a person · Dataset 2026.10.7.

Who can apply
Every nationality: Seychelles requires no visa from any passport holder. You need an approved Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before departure, a return or onward ticket, confirmed accommodation (the e-Border portal expects a tourism establishment licensed by the Tourism Department) and funds of at least US$150 a day. Working for a Seychelles employer or local clients is not allowed without a Gainful Occupation Permit.
What you need
- Passport valid for the whole intended stay until your return to your country of origin or residence
- Approved Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) from seychelles.govtas.com, applied for up to 30 days before departure
- Return or onward ticket covering the length of the visit
- Confirmed accommodation at a licensed tourism establishment or a verifiable residential address in Seychelles
- Proof of sufficient funds for the stay, at least US$150 or equivalent per day (bank statements or cards)
- Travel and medical insurance (recommended rather than required for the Visitor's Permit; the Workcation permit required it)
- For extensions: the online or paper extension application, the same ticket, accommodation and funds evidence, and SCR 5,000 per three-month period paid by card
- Non-citizen residents and permit holders also upload a copy of their permit with the eTA
Income proof: Immigration and Civil Status asks visitors for funds of at least US$150 a day for the length of the stay; the figure is already in US dollars, and US$4,500 is 30 days at that rate. It is a funds-on-hand rule checked at the border and at each extension, not an income test, and there is no published salary threshold. The disabled Workcation permit asked only for bank statements showing income or funds sufficient for the stay, with no stated minimum.
Family: There is no dependant status on a Visitor's Permit: a spouse, partner and children each enter on their own eTA and Visitor's Permit, each extension costs SCR 5,000 per person, and the US$150-a-day funds rule applies to each traveller (families can file one group eTA application). The Dependant's Permit (SCR 1,000 a year) exists only for the spouse and minor children of a Seychelles citizen.
Cost and timeline
| Minimum income | $4,500/monthSufficient funds for the stay: minimum US$150 (or equivalent) per day, about US$4,500 for a 30-day month |

| Fee | about $339The initial Visitor's Permit is issued free of charge. Each extension beyond three months costs SCR 5,000, which is about US$339 at the Central Bank of Seychelles indicative mid rate of 13 October 2026 (SCR 14.7602 per US dollar); a full year therefore costs SCR 15,000 (about US$1,016) in extensions. The eTA costs €10 per person for 24-hour processing, €30 for six hours and €70 for one hour (about US$11, US$34 and US$78 at the ECB rate of 13 October 2026, US$1.1188 per euro), plus bank charges, and arriving without one carries a €30 penalty. When the Workcation permit was open its brochure quoted a one-time fee of €45 covering the permit and travel authorisation; that figure is not on any live official page. |
| Processing time | 0 days to 1 daysThe Visitor's Permit is stamped on arrival once you hold an approved eTA, which the portal processes within 24 hours on the standard tier (six hours premium, one hour expedited) and which can be filed up to 30 days before travel. Immigration publishes no service standard for extensions, which are filed online at permits.ics.gov.sc or at Independence House in Victoria; file before your current three months run out. |
| Stay | 3 months, renewable up to 1 year |
How to apply
Consulate, then in the country. Online at the Seychelles Electronic Border System (seychelles.govtas.com or the Seychelles e-Border app) for the eTA before you fly; the Visitor's Permit itself is issued by the Department of Immigration and Civil Status at the airport, and extensions are requested online at permits.ics.gov.sc or in person at Independence House, Victoria, Mahé.
- Book a return or onward ticket and accommodation at a licensed tourism establishment; the e-Border portal may refuse applications with accommodation that is not on the Tourism Department's list.
- Up to 30 days before departure, apply for the eTA on seychelles.govtas.com or the e-Border app: scan your passport, take a photo, enter flight and accommodation details, answer the health and customs questions and pay €10 (standard, 24 hours), €30 (six hours) or €70 (one hour) plus bank charges.
- Travel with the approved eTA QR code, a passport valid for the whole stay, your ticket out, accommodation confirmation and proof of funds of at least US$150 a day; the immigration officer issues a Visitor's Permit of up to three months.
- To stay longer, apply for a Visitor's Extension Permit at permits.ics.gov.sc (card payment) or at Independence House before the permit expires, paying SCR 5,000 for each further period of up to three months, to a total of twelve months.
- Keep working only for your foreign employer or clients; any work for a Seychelles business, paid or unpaid, needs a Gainful Occupation Permit applied for by a local employer.
After you arrive
Renewal: The Visitor's Permit is granted on arrival for up to three months and can be extended for successive periods of up to three months each, to a maximum of twelve months in total, as long as you still have a ticket out, accommodation and funds. The Workcation Visitor Permit was advertised for one month to one year, but the portal no longer accepts that application type.
Residence: Time on a Visitor's Permit does not count toward anything. The separate Residence Permit (no right to work) costs SCR 150,000 for five years plus a SCR 1,000 processing fee and requires a family connection or a special contribution to Seychelles; Permanent Residence is reserved for spouses of citizens, priority workers, students and investors.
Taxes
Seychelles taxes on a territorial basis: only income sourced in Seychelles, from activities conducted, goods situated or rights used in the islands, is liable to Seychelles tax, so salary or invoices from a foreign employer or foreign clients for work done remotely are not taxed there and a visitor files nothing. Income tax (15% to 30% for non-citizens, withheld by the employer) applies only to emoluments from employment in Seychelles, and business tax only to businesses operating in Seychelles. Your home country's residence rules continue to apply, and a tourism environmental levy of €6 per visitor per night is charged with the eTA.
In practice
- The Seychelles Workcation Retreat Programme (launched in 2021 by the Seychelles Tourism Board, the Tourism Department and Immigration) still has its welcome text on the e-Border portal, but 'WORKATION' is listed among the portal's disabled enrolment types, the /workcation address redirects to the home page and the programme site workcation.seychelles.travel is offline, so this guide treats Seychelles as having no live nomad visa.
- Visitors must not work or provide services for a Seychelles business, paid or unpaid, without a Gainful Occupation Permit; remote work for an employer or clients abroad is tolerated on a Visitor's Permit in practice, as the Workcation permit itself was only a Visitor's Permit variant.
- The eTA is for one journey: every trip to Seychelles needs a new application, and a stay on Praslin or La Digue needs no separate authorisation.
- Budget for the islands: the US$150-a-day funds rule mirrors real prices, and licensed guesthouses on Mahé and Praslin are cheaper than resort islands. Victoria and the north-west coast of Mahé (Beau Vallon) have the most reliable fibre and 4G.
- A tourism environmental levy of €6 per visitor per night is collected with the eTA and a 30 euro penalty applies if you arrive without an approved eTA.

- How long can you stay in Seychelles on the Visitor's Permit (visa-free, extendable to one year), and can it be renewed?
- 3 months, renewable up to 1 year. The Visitor's Permit is granted on arrival for up to three months and can be extended for successive periods of up to three months each, to a maximum of twelve months in total, as long as you still have a ticket out, accommodation and funds. The Workcation Visitor Permit was advertised for one month to one year, but the portal no longer accepts that application type.
- Does the Visitor's Permit (visa-free, extendable to one year) lead to permanent residence in Seychelles?
- Not by itself. Time on a Visitor's Permit does not count toward anything. The separate Residence Permit (no right to work) costs SCR 150,000 for five years plus a SCR 1,000 processing fee and requires a family connection or a special contribution to Seychelles; Permanent Residence is reserved for spouses of citizens, priority workers, students and investors.
- Can family members come with you on the Visitor's Permit (visa-free, extendable to one year)?
- There is no dependant status on a Visitor's Permit: a spouse, partner and children each enter on their own eTA and Visitor's Permit, each extension costs SCR 5,000 per person, and the US$150-a-day funds rule applies to each traveller (families can file one group eTA application). The Dependant's Permit (SCR 1,000 a year) exists only for the spouse and minor children of a Seychelles citizen.
- Do you pay tax in Seychelles on the Visitor's Permit (visa-free, extendable to one year)?
- Seychelles taxes on a territorial basis: only income sourced in Seychelles, from activities conducted, goods situated or rights used in the islands, is liable to Seychelles tax, so salary or invoices from a foreign employer or foreign clients for work done remotely are not taxed there and a visitor files nothing. - Does Seychelles still have the Workcation digital nomad visa?
- Not in practice. The Workcation Retreat Programme was launched in 2021 and its permit was applied for through the Seychelles Electronic Border System, but as of October 2026 the portal lists the Workcation enrolment type as disabled, the Workcation page redirects to the ordinary travel-authorisation home page and the programme website is offline. Remote workers use the ordinary visa-free Visitor's Permit instead.
- How long can a remote worker stay in Seychelles without a visa?
- Up to twelve months. The Visitor's Permit issued on arrival is valid for up to three months and Immigration and Civil Status extends it for further periods of up to three months each, at SCR 5,000 per period, to a maximum of one year, provided you still show a ticket out, accommodation and sufficient funds.
- Will Seychelles tax the salary I earn remotely while staying there?
- No. Seychelles taxes only Seychelles-sourced income; income tax is charged on emoluments from employment in Seychelles and business tax on businesses operating there. Pay from a foreign employer or foreign clients for remote work is not Seychelles-sourced, so there is nothing to declare, though your home country's tax residence rules still apply.
