Privacy policy

This policy covers the Nostos website at nostos.navoy.io and the Nostos iOS app (bundle id io.navoy.nostos). Both are published by Navoy Technologies Inc.

The iOS app

  • Your preferences (passport, budget, factor weights and saved cities) are stored only on your device. The app has no accounts, no sign-in and no analytics, and it sends no personal data to us or to anyone else.
  • To show cities, the app downloads the open dataset and the visa entry rules from nostos.navoy.io, and city photos from Wikimedia Commons. As with any website you open, those servers see your device's IP address and the time of each request. We do not use this to identify you.
  • Deleting the app deletes everything it stored.

The website

  • The website uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are used. It records page views and clicks through to the Navoy trip planner, and sets Google's analytics cookies. The property is shared with navoy.io, so a visit that moves between the two sites counts as one. Blocking the tag with a content blocker does not break the site.
  • It also uses PostHog for page views, clicks on links to city, list, comparison and visa-guide pages, and anonymised session replays in which every form field is masked; it builds no profile of identified people.
  • The ranker keeps your weights and filters in the page address so you can bookmark or share a result, and remembers your passport, home city and preferred units in your browser's local storage. None of this is sent to our servers.
  • Visa guides have a feedback form. What you send (an accuracy vote with an optional comment, or an account of your own application with your passport country, outcome, dates, costs, notes and, if you choose, your name and an email address for a follow-up question) is stored and read by a person before anything is published. Approved accounts appear on the guide with the name you gave; the email address is never shown. Your IP address is used to limit how many submissions one address can make per hour.
  • There are no accounts and no sign-in.

The data

Everything the app and the website show comes from the Nostos open dataset, published under CC BY 4.0 on the data page. It describes cities and countries, not people.
