For May 2026 to April 2027 the announced average is CZK 590,580 a year (CZK 49,215 a month), giving CZK 73,823 a month, the same figure the Ministry of Industry and Trade publishes for Blue Card salaries. Employees show it in the employment contract; freelancers in client contracts or affidavits spread over the contract months. The figure is re-set every May.

How to apply
Consulate, then in the country. First by email to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (digitalnomad@mpo.gov.cz) for inclusion in the Program, then in person at the Czech embassy or consulate for your country of citizenship or long-term residence, which issues the visa on the Ministry of the Interior's instruction.
- Freelancers: contact the relevant trade licensing office (živnostenský úřad) to declare a free trade in IT or marketing services and obtain the office's confirmation; employees skip this step but need their employer's commercial-register extract and an affidavit that it has at least 50 employees worldwide.
- Email the Ministry of Industry and Trade the completed application form with proof of citizenship, proof of education or three years of IT experience, and either the employment contract (English plus certified Czech translation of the salary, employer and remote-work clauses) or client contracts or affidavits showing income of at least CZK 73,823 a month.
- Receive the Ministry's confirmation of inclusion with a visa recommendation; the embassy then assigns a date for your long-term visa application (one alternative date only if you cannot attend).
- Attend the embassy with the visa form, photos, passport, criminal-record extracts, proof of accommodation, proof of funds, travel medical insurance and the fee; freelancers also sit an interview.
- After the Ministry of the Interior's decision (within 45 days) collect the one-year visa, travel, and report your address to the Foreign Police within three working days unless your landlord does it.
- Before the visa expires, apply at the Ministry of the Interior for the long-term residence permit (business for freelancers; other purposes for employees, after renewing Program inclusion) and complete the adaptation-integration course.
After you arrive
Renewal: The long-term visa is issued for up to one year. Before it expires, freelancers apply to the Ministry of the Interior for a long-term residence permit for business, and employees first renew their inclusion in the Program (valid one year at a time, needing a Czech tax-domicile certificate) and then apply for a long-term residence permit for other purposes; both are extendable while the conditions hold.
Residence: Long-term visas and residence permits count toward the five years of continuous residence required for a Czech permanent residence permit under the Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals, with time on a long-term visa counted at half; confirm the calculation with the Ministry of the Interior when you reach the threshold. Permanent residence is typically possible after 5 years.
Taxes
You become Czech tax resident if you have a permanent home in Czechia or spend 183 days or more in a calendar year, and are then taxed on worldwide income at 15% and 23%. Freelancers on a trade licence can use the 60% lump-sum expense deduction or the flat-tax regime, and must pay Czech social and health insurance; employees of foreign companies remain on their employer's payroll but may become liable to Czech tax after 183 days, and the Program renewal requires a Czech tax-domicile certificate.
In practice
- Decision on nomadVisa: true. The Program is a dedicated, targeted digital-nomad scheme in force since 1 July 2023 (updated 1 July 2025) with its own eligibility list and income test, even though the permit it delivers is the ordinary long-term visa for business or other purposes; the fast track and the employee route do not exist outside it.
- The freelancer route depends on the Czech trade licence (živnostenský list), which must be declared before applying; freelancer inclusion has unlimited validity, while employees must renew inclusion each year.
- Business-visa applications are also capped per embassy by Government Regulation 220/2019 (and the Delhi embassy limits other-purpose applications to 24 a year), so apply early in the calendar year.
- Prague has most of the English-speaking coworking and the Ministry of the Interior's main offices; Brno is cheaper, has a large IT sector and a dedicated expat centre that helps with the trade licence.
For your passport
Choose your passport in the ranker and the notes that apply to you move to the top.
- EU, EEA, CH:Not needed: EU, EEA and Swiss citizens live and work in Czechia freely and only register with the Ministry of the Interior after 30 days (certificate of temporary residence optional).
- US, GB, CA, AU, NZ, JP, KR, IL, SG:Eligible and visa-exempt in Schengen for 90 days in 180, so you can scout Prague or Brno first, but the long-term visa must be requested at the Czech embassy abroad; it cannot be issued inside Czechia.
- TW, IN, BR, MX:Eligible for the Program (Taiwan, Brazil and Mexico are also Schengen visa-exempt; Indian citizens need a Schengen visa to scout). Indian applicants should note the 24-per-year cap on other-purpose visas at the Delhi embassy.
- All other passports:Not eligible for the Program. The ordinary long-term visa for business (trade licence, CZK 5,000 fee, 90 to 120 days) is open to all nationalities but without the 45-day guarantee or the remote-employee route.
