New Zealand · Oceania · 13,200 people · Pacific/Auckland · NZD
Wānaka scores 60.1/100 for digital nomads under balanced weights, ranking 605 of 1000 cities. Expect about $2,950 per month (country-level estimate), no dedicated nomad visa, and a measured median download speed of 56.1 Mbps.
Wānaka is a small lakeside town in Otago with Mount Aspiring National Park, the Cardrona and Treble Cone ski fields and Queenstown airport all within about an hour. It is calmer and less touristy than Queenstown, but housing is scarce and expensive, there are no scheduled flights and the town is too small for much of a coworking scene.
