Akureyri

Iceland · Europe · 20,284 people · Atlantic/Reykjavik · ISK

Akureyri scores 66.2/100 for digital nomads under balanced weights, ranking 347 of 1000 cities. Expect about $3,689 per month, no dedicated nomad visa, and a measured median download speed of 101 Mbps.

Akureyri is a town of about 20,000 at the head of a long fjord in north Iceland, with a ski hill above town, whale-watching boats and Lake Mývatn about 1 h away. It is friendly, walkable and far quieter than Reykjavík, which is a 45-min flight or about 5 h drive; it is also tiny, expensive, dark in midwinter and most international flights still go through Keflavík.
