## Who can apply

Decree 241 of 30 April 2025 limits the status to citizens of six visa-free countries (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia) and five visa countries (United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea) who work in software development, IT exports, data processing and hosting, digital and media art, animation and graphic design, AI and robotics, or games and e-sports. Other nationalities and non-IT professions are not covered.

Eligible passports: AZ, AM, BY, KZ, MD, RU, US, GB, DE, JP, KR.

## What you need

- Passport of a listed country, meeting that country's document standards
- Digital face photograph: neutral expression, frontal, no headwear except a religious headscarf that leaves the face visible, no glare on glasses
- Employment contract or service contracts with clients from the last two years and/or a contract for the coming period
- Bank statement showing at least US$5,000 of income from contract work over the year before the application
- Bank certificate confirming a balance of at least US$3,000
- Proof of professional activity in a listed field: diploma, qualification certificate, course or training certificates, reference letters
- Notarised translations into Kyrgyz or Russian of any foreign-language documents, consular legalisation where no treaty waives it
- For the one-year extension: HIV antibody test from the Republican centre, medical examination certificate, the stage-one electronic status document, DN visa (visa nationals), income documents or tax declaration, and individual entrepreneur or company registration certificate

Income proof: The regulation requires a bank statement of income from contract work of at least US$5,000 for one year before the application date and a bank certificate confirming at least US$3,000 on account. US$417 is the annual US$5,000 divided by 12; the authority itself states the figure per year, not per month, so the threshold is far lower than other nomad visas.

Fee: Decree 241 states that the Digital Nomad status is assigned and extended free of charge as an electronic document with a QR code. Citizens of the US, UK, Germany, Japan and South Korea must additionally obtain a type DN visa through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' e-visa portal, whose fee depends on nationality, validity and entries and is not stated in the regulation, so no total is given here.

Processing: The migration authority decides within seven working days of a complete file: three working days to check the documents and three for the national security clearance, which is deemed approved if no answer arrives. Incomplete files get up to ten working days to be fixed, after which they are rejected.

## How to apply

Online. Online at dnomad.e-gov.kg, the Government Services portal run by the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Migration (helpline +996 312 66 39 64, 215 Tynystanov Street, Bishkek). Visa nationals then obtain the DN visa at evisa.e-gov.kg.

1. Check that your passport is one of the 11 listed countries and that your work falls within the listed IT, software, data, digital-media, AI or games fields.
2. Request activation of a personal account on dnomad.e-gov.kg, then submit the stage-one application with your passport, digital photo, contracts, income statement, bank certificate and proof of profession, with notarised Kyrgyz or Russian translations.
3. If you are a US, UK, German, Japanese or Korean citizen, apply for the type DN visa on evisa.e-gov.kg once the status is confirmed; the status activates when you cross the border.
4. Within 60 days of activation, take the HIV antibody test at the Republican centre and the standard medical examination in Kyrgyzstan, register as an individual entrepreneur or company if required, and file the stage-two extension online.
5. Receive the one-year electronic Digital Nomad card and renew it each year, extending your registration no later than the last day of the current term.

## After you arrive

Stay and renewal: Stage one grants the status for 60 days from activation at the border. Within those 60 days you apply online for stage two, an extension to one year, which can then be renewed every year for up to ten years in total.

Residence: The status is an electronic permit that exempts you from registration and work permits; it is not a residence permit and the regulation makes no link to temporary or permanent residence, which are separate procedures under the external migration law.

Family: Your spouse, minor children and other dependants may enter and stay temporarily under the general external migration rules; family members from visa countries are issued a type FF family visa through the e-visa portal, valid up to 90 days, without the right to work.

Taxes: Status holders may trade as individual entrepreneurs or found companies in the listed fields and must comply with Kyrgyz state social insurance law; the State Tax Service tracks nomads registered as entrepreneurs. You become tax resident after 183 days in a 12-month period, after which Kyrgyz income tax (a flat 10%) applies to worldwide income subject to treaties; take advice.

## In practice

- nomadVisa is set to true because the status is a dedicated remote-work permit with a permanent legal basis (Cabinet Decree 241 of 30 April 2025, replacing the 2022 pilot) and a live application portal since December 2025; it is not a generic long-stay route.
- The official portal is dnomad.e-gov.kg on the Government Services domain; digitalnomad.kg is not a government site (it did not resolve when checked) and should not be used for applications.
- The country list is narrow: only 11 nationalities qualify, and only IT, software, data, digital-media and games professions. EU citizens other than Germans, and Canadians and Australians, are not eligible.
- Perks are practical rather than immigration-related: no address registration for 60 days, a personal identification number (PIN), no work permit, and the right to open Kyrgyz bank accounts without registration.
- Bishkek is the only Kyrgyz city in the dataset; it is cheap, with decent fibre internet, and Issyk-Kul lake is a summer escape three to four hours away.

## By passport

| Passports | Note |
| --- | --- |
| EU, EEA, CH | Only German citizens are eligible, and they need a DN visa via the e-visa portal. Other EU, EEA and Swiss passports can visit visa-free for 60 days as tourists but cannot obtain the Digital Nomad status. |
| US, GB, JP, KR | Eligible as visa countries: obtain the status online first, then the type DN visa on evisa.e-gov.kg before travelling. Family members use the FF visa. |
| RU, KZ, BY, AZ, AM, MD | Eligible as visa-free countries: apply online, enter without a visa and the status activates at the border; the 60-day registration exemption then applies. |
| CA, AU, NZ | Not on the list and therefore not eligible, despite 60-day visa-free tourist entry. |
| All other passports | Not eligible. Nationals of around 60 countries can still stay 60 days visa-free as tourists, and the general work-permit and residence routes under the external migration law remain available. |
